Congratulations!
The Groom picked you to be his Best Man. Being a
part of the Groom’s wedding is quite an honor. Unfortunately,
you just can’t show up and drink all the liquor.
Your main job is to ensure the Groom goes onto the
next stage of his life without any complications.
You are the Groom’s servant, chauffeur, and personal
assistant for the next 24 hours. There is a fine
single bridesmaid at the end of this dark tunnel.
Trust us.
We’ve created a list of all the duties that the Best
Man must complete before and during the wedding day.
Don’t worry, its not all work and no play. You still
have the Bachelor
Party to plan, remember?
- You must ensure that everyone has a good time
at the wedding. Dance with everyone.
- Tell the Bride and everyone else that they look
beautiful; it should just flow out of your mouth
right after, “nice to meet you.”
- Offer to pick up the Groomsmen’s tuxs and return
them.
- Assist with getting people to and from the airport.
- Pick up the Groom on the Wedding Day.
- Drive the Bride and Groom if needed. (This means you
may need to be the designated driver)
- Make sure the rings get to the ceremony.
- Know how the ceremony will go down and keep ushers
and Groomsmen in line.
- Give the first Toast,
as eloquently and sober as possible. (See
Toast)
- Have a wedding emergency kit (umbrella, mints,
camera, cell-phone, maps).
- Plan a Kick-Ass
Bachelor Party in line with the Groom’s
wishes and perhaps the Bride’s as well.
- Purchase a special gift (in addition to the one
given for the for the couple) with the rest of the
Groomsmen, often this gift is given at the Bachelor
party.
- Review usher and Groomsmen’s duties and make
sure they arrive on time.
- Hold the ring until it's needed in the ceremony.
- Sign the marriage license as witness.
- Make sure service providers are paid discreetly
and tipped appropriately.
(See tipping)
- Drive the Couple to airport the next day, and see them off on their honeymoon.
- Offer to bring breakfast to the Bride, the morning
of the Wedding.
